What are the differences between a hot plate machine and a hot melt machine?

What's the difference between a hot plate welder and a hot melt welder? The concepts of hot plate welders and hot melt welders might be a bit unclear. They certainly have differences, but they also share some similarities. Today, we'll learn about the welding knowledge of hot plate welders and hot melt welders together.

A hot plate welder uses a pull-out plate structure. It uses electric heating to transfer heat from the heating plate to the welding surface of the plastic heating part. The surface melts, and then the plate quickly moves away from the heating plate, heating the upper and lower heating components, melting the molten surface, and solidifying it into a single unit. The entire machine is a frame structure, composed of three main plates: a top template, a bottom template, and a hot template. It is equipped with hot molds and upper and lower plastic cold molds. The movement is pneumatically controlled and manually operated. It is mainly suitable for welding plastic parts for household appliances, headlights, automotive melters, etc.

A hot plate welder can adjust the heating power and mold size according to different plastic sizes, allowing for the welding of various plastic workpieces. It is simple to operate and convenient to use. The heating plate consists of two parts, upper and lower, heated by electric heating elements. This machine is equipped with two temperature controllers to adjust the upper and lower forming temperatures separately. During welding, the temperature can be set within the range of 0 to 600 degrees Celsius according to actual welding needs. This equipment can be controlled manually or automatically. Manual control involves individual actions and is mainly used for mechanism and mold debugging; adjustments are made automatically during production after manual setup. The automatic control system uses a programmable logic controller (PLC) and a touchscreen human-machine interface. Each cylinder's movement is driven by pneumatic pressure, resulting in simple operation, stable performance, small size, and improved work efficiency and quality.

Hot melt machines are generally used as specialized machines or in conjunction with robots. Using high-performance heaters and thermocouples allows for excellent temperature regulation, leading to more stable processing. Currently, hot melt is primarily used between plastics and metals, mainly for riveting, hot melt molding, and hot melt removal. Furthermore, hot melt adhesives do not have high requirements for the material of the product, so welding is generally unnecessary for ordinary plastics. After welding, the product's strength is generally maintained at over 80% of the original material.

What operational points should be noted when using a hot plate machine? As a professional hot plate manufacturer, let's take a look:

First, before operating the machine, check that all components are functioning properly, especially the power supply and air pressure. Ensure all working parts are in the correct positions and without errors before starting the machine.

Second, operators must follow the user manual's procedures when operating the hot plate machine. Do not start the machine blindly. Operators should not focus solely on the machine during operation and should not talk to others. If the operator needs to leave while the machine is running, they must first turn off the power. If another machine is running automatically and experiences a power outage or other unexpected situation, press the stop button to restore normal operation, then manually return to the work point. Furthermore, after operating the hot plate machine, return all parts to their original positions, turn off the power, and promptly remove any debris or other contaminants around the machine before it is completely shut down to prevent them from entering and affecting its operation.
